Quick March – By The Centre by Stuart Dean
 
By The Centre are the words of command most commonly given by the Senior Drum Major of The Household Division immediately before the Massed Bands of London's world renown Foot Guards step off on a State Ceremonial occasion or engagement of National importance. The order indicates how the musicians should pay attention to their dressing when on the march.
 
This beautifully crafted quick march by Stuart Dean makes discreet use of quotes from the Quick and Slow of Marches of  the different regiments of the Guards Division, all of which are cleverly embedded within the music.
 
The Massed Foot Guards Bands first performed By The Centre live in June 2022 on the occasion of the march from Wellington Barracks to Horse Guards Parade for a performance of the Military Music Spectacular - formerly known as Beating Retreat.
